Serial prankster charged after Kangaroos stunt

A serial prankster has been charged by police after sneaking onto the field and lining up with Australia’s rugby league team before their game against England on the weekend.

Englishman Daniel Jarvis was dressed in the green-and-gold Kangaroos uniform and managed to evade security to stand at the end of the team’s line-up as the national anthem was sung ahead of kick-off at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool.

He even linked arms with Kangaroos star Cameron Munster, and can be seen in video footage looking around the stadium as Advance Australia Fair played.

“Mate, he got me an absolute ripper,” Munster said later, explaining that Jarvis initially tried to stand between himself and fellow player Pat Carrigan.

The prankster was undeterred when Munster declined the request.

“He goes again, ‘Can I stand next to you and hold ya’, and I said, ‘Aw, yeh, righto mate. Do what you need to do’.

“I just assumed he had a corporate package or some agreement with the Kangaroos that he could jump in for the anthem… then I realised who it was. It was the guy who does that stuff on the regular.

“It took me a while to click on, but it was pretty funny. He got me.”

Munster said one of the security staff came and grabbed Jarvis, who was later charged with disrupting a person engaged in a lawful activity.

The interruption didn’t affect the Kangaroos’ performance, with the team winning the game 14-4 to secure the three-Test series.

Nonetheless, the BBC reported that the incident is likely to form part of a Rugby Football League internal review of the event.

Jarvis is well-known as a pitch invader and prankster, sharing his escapades on social media under the handle @bmwjarvo.

He previously snuck into the Paris Olympic Games closing ceremony dressed as a member of the Great Britain team, and tried to line up with the English football team ahead of their National League game against Ireland last year. A photo Jarvis posted on Instagram from the latter stunt is captioned “England’s fattest footballer of all time”.

The 37-year-old was also convicted of aggravated trespass after running onto the field in Indian whites and colliding with English player Jonny Bairstow during a Test match between the two countries in 2022. On that occasion, he was handed a suspended sentence.
