Shocking road rage attack caught on dashcam

A motorbike rider has lost his licence after shocking dashcam footage captured him jumping on the bonnet of a car and trying to rip off a windscreen wiper during a prolonged road-rage attack.

The incident occurred in the regional Victorian city of Mildura on February 27, and led to John Stanley Turner facing court on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to five offences including dangerous driving and property damage.

The Mildura Magistrates Court released the dashcam footage of the attack, which occurred at night-time.

While it’s not clear what set Turner off, he can be seen overtaking the car, which was being driven by a P-plater with passengers, then turning around to flip the bird. He took of his helmet and threw it at the car windscreen.

The altercation continued further along the road, where the 62-year-old stopped in a turning lane, got off his bike and jumped on the car’s bonnet.

The court was told that at this point the frightened driver phoned police and was told to drive to the police station – which they did, with Turner still clinging to the car and trying to rip off the wiper.

In a victim impact statement, the car’s driver said they had “never been so petrified in my life”, the ABC reported. The attack was said to have caused more than $7700 damage to their vehicle.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan – who described the behaviour as “outrageous” and “disturbing” – suspended Turner’s licence for eight months and placed him on a 12-month community corrections order.
