Students injured as bus carrying 41 crashes

Five students have been taken to hospital after their school bus crashed into a tree in Sydney’s west on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Erskine Park Road, Erskine Park, shortly before 1pm, following reports a school bus had left the road and hit a tree.
A team of responders worked to extricate the driver, believed to be in his 50s, a teacher and 41 students.
The students from Erskine Park High School were in years 11 and 12.
The driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital for further treatment and mandatory testing.
Five students – aged between 16 and 18 – were transported to various hospitals for further treatment, one with suspected fractures.
The remaining students and teacher were shaken but not physically injured.
They have all been taken home or back to school NSW Police said.
The northbound lane of Erskine Park Road was closed during the operation involving Nepean Police Area Command, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance.
Erskine Park High School confirmed that its students were involved in the accident.
“All students are currently OK and are being assessed by NSW Ambulance personnel as a precaution,” the school posted.
“Counselling support will also be available at school tomorrow for any students who may require it.”
