Three people have been killed and injured in a head-on crash involving two Hyundai hatchbacks near Queanbeyan, NSW.

The crash happened on the Kings Highway at Monga on Monday shortly after 5pm.

A female driver and her front-seat passenger – believed to be a teenage girl – died, as well as a man who was a back-seat passenger in that vehicle.

NSW Police said on Tuesday they were yet to be formally identified.

A second teenage girl, also travelling in the back seat, was critically injured and airlifted to Canberra Hospital.

They were in a silver Hyundai i20 which was travelling east.

The 31-year-old male driver of the second hatchback — a 2023-model white Hyundai Ioniq travelling west — was airlifted to Westmead Hospital suffering serious injuries.

A seven-year-old child from that vehicle was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.

A three-year-old child was taken to Canberra Hospital to be checked as a precaution.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District established a crime scene with specialists from Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) conducting the investigation.

Police are appealing for anyone with relevant dashcam vision of either vehicle to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000.
