A baby girl has died and a five-year-old girl is in a serious condition following a tragic incident in a shopping centre car park in south-west Sydney on Monday.

Emergency services were called to Brookfield Road, Minto, after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car about 3.30pm.

Footage from the scene outside Minto Mall shows a crumpled pram between two vehicles, and a shopping trolley nearby.

NSW Police said they arrived to discover a five-month-old infant and five-year-old child in a serious condition after they were hit by a car.

Police began CPR on the baby girl before she was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics. However, she died at the scene.

The five-year-old child was also treated by paramedics, and then taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious condition.

The 35-year-old driver was uninjured.

A woman who gave her name only as Debbie told the Seven Network the tragedy unfolded in front of “a lot of shoppers”.

“It was very traumatic,” she said.

A crime scene was established. The police investigation into the crash continues.
