A man has been arrested after allegedly using a stun gun on a Woolworths delivery driver and then stealing his truck.

The alleged thief then led NSW Police on a pursuit across Sydney early on Wednesday, before being nabbed more than 60 kilometres away.

Police said they were called to Olympic Parade in Bankstown about 6am on Wednesday, where a 23-year-old truck driver had allegedly been hit with a stun device and then assaulted by a man who then stole his truck.

The driver was taken to Bankstown Police Station to be checked by NSW Ambulance paramedics. He was then taken to Bankstown Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, officers were looking for the truck. It was spotted about 9am on the Princes Highway at Rockdale.

“When the driver allegedly failed to stop when directed, a pursuit was initiated,” NSW Police said.

“The pursuit continued at Wolli Creek, where the truck allegedly hit four parked cars but did not stop.

“The pursuit was then terminated due to safety concerns and the truck was last seen continuing onto the M8.”

Police and PolAir monitored the truck as it headed westbound onto the M4.

On the Great Western Highway at Glenbrook, police used road spikes to try to halt the vehicle.

“The truck came to a stop a short time later at Blaxland and the driver was arrested following the deployment of a Taser, with the assistance of the dog unit and the public order and riot squad,” police said.

A 29-year-old man was taken to Springwood Police Station, and then to Nepean Hospital to be checked for minor injuries sustained during the arrest.

Woolworths spokesman Chris Peter said called the early-morning carjacking was “unacceptable”.

“The driver was on their way to deliver the first order of the day before being flagged down and assaulted – a level of violence that is unacceptable anywhere in the community,” he told News Corp.

“We’ll continue to engage with industry, police and governments across the country to drive solutions to violence across retail, including online deliveries, to help protect the safety of our team members, customers and contractors.

“We’ll also be supporting the driver in any way we can, through our contractor, and continue assisting police with their inquiries.”
