Nicole Kidman’s striking fresh spin on ‘naked dressing’

Nicole Kidman has once again wowed fashion followers by stepping out on the red carpet in a skin-tight black and white Schiaparelli ensemble featuring scales down the front and sheer sides.
The striking two-piece – described by Harpers Bazaar as “a playful spin on the dinner suit” – was seen by couture commentators as a fresh take on Hollywood’s so-called “naked dressing” trend.
Other A-listers who have embraced the sheer look include Margot Robbie, who turned heads last year at the London premiere of her new film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey in a floor-length Armani Privé gown adorned with beads and crystals.
Kidman’s outfit for the New York premiere of her Apple TV+ show Margo’s Got Money Troubles was less risque than some naked dresses, but no less stunning.
Part of French luxury fashion house Schiaparelli’s just-released autumn-winter 2026 collection, it featured a zip-up top and matching midi skirt.
“Both the top and skirt were made of a sheer, see-through material, which continued the naked trend we’ve seen these past couple years,” observed Harpers Bazaar.
“In the middle, white swathes of fabric cut through the mostly-black silhouette, like a bib front peeking through. They were decorated with leather paillettes, like scales, that added a three-dimensional touch and gave the appearance of a jabot, too.”
Vogue praised the Oscar winner for always choosing outfits that “elevate or refine the look du jour”.
“However much fabric or skin on (or not on) show, you can always trust Nicole Kidman to captivate on the carpet,” it enthused.
Last October, just a month after filing for divorce from Grammy-winning country singer Keith Urban, Kidman opened the Vogue World Hollywood fashion tribute in a beautiful black Channel gown that many considered her “revenge dress”.
The 58-year-old actor – who stars in the recently released new Prime Video thriller Scarpetta, based on author Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling crime series – spoke in March for the first time about the couple’s split, telling Variety that 2025 was a quiet year for her.
“I had other things going on. I was in my shell,” she said.
“Now I’m in a place of saying, ‘2026. Here we go’.”
