Are these the world’s best artworks? Ten spectacular pieces for the bucket list

Art tourism is on the rise, with travellers – especially younger generations like millennials and gen Z – prioritising immersive cultural experiences over sightseeing.
American company Grand View Research found the global art tourism market size was valued at $US44 billion ($67 billion) in 2023 and is projected to grow at an annual rate of 3.1 per cent every year until 2030.
Travel publisher Lonely Planet is getting in on the act with a new book, Art Destinations, which explores some of the world’s most interesting art and cultural destinations.
It explores 70 destinations from around the globe, from dazzling capitals to lesser-known creative enclaves.
It also includes 10 destinations with bucket-list artworks, with Australia’s Kakadu National Park featuring prominently.
