Art tourism is on the rise, with travellers – especially younger generations like millennials and gen Z – prioritising immersive cultural experiences over sightseeing.

American company Grand View Research found the global art tourism market size was valued at $US44 billion ($67 billion) in 2023 and is projected to grow at an annual rate of 3.1 per cent every year until 2030.

Travel publisher Lonely Planet is getting in on the act with a new book, Art Destinations, which explores some of the world’s most interesting art and cultural destinations.
