Fashionistas forced to evacuate during runway show

Never has a crowd looked so incredibly well dressed while evacuating a building.

On day three of Australian Fashion Week in Sydney, fashionistas at the Iordanes Spyridon Gogos runway show in Paddington had to briefly evacuate the UNSW Galleries building when a fire alarm went off.

It’s not known why the alarm sounded, and the show restarted a short time later, with firefighters arriving at a separate part of the campus.

One wonders what The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda Priestly would have said about the unscheduled interruption.

The incident had the fashionistas wondering if the disruption was all part of the show – for several minutes, models continued to walk the runway as the alarm sounded.

Among them was a male model in a bright blue dress, baseball cap and mules, who was unflappable despite the noise.

It wasn’t the only notable element of the Iordanes Spyridon Gogos show, with one model carrying another across his shoulders, before dragging her across the ground.

Whatever is happening on the Fashion Week runways, the harbourside city fashion is more vibrant than usual, with shows attracting Sydney’s most experimental fashionistas.

Earlier on Thursday, Christian Kimber showed his latest menswear collection at the event’s new harbourside home, the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Wednesday night showcased the industry’s up-and-coming designers with a group show titled The Innovators, from TAFE NSW’s Fashion Design Studio.
