Sydneysider dies after another triple-zero failure

Vodafone owner TPG Telecom says a Sydney resident died last Thursday, after a triple-zero call failed to go through.
The person was using the company’s budget Lebara service with a Samsung phone.
TPG says its network was operational, and there were no outages. Early investigations indicate the customer’s phone was operating on old software that was trying to connect to the 3G network, which was switched off across Australia in November 2024.
Australian Telecommunications Alliance CEO Luke Coleman spoke to 10 News+ about what consumers can do if they are concerned about their device’s connectivity.
The Sydney death the second fatal incident involving a major telecommunication company in two months, after four deaths were linked to the Optus triple-zero outage in September.
