Newborn baby abandoned at fire station

A baby believed to be less than 24 hours old has been abandoned at a Canberra fire station.
Canberra police are searching for the mother of a newborn baby abandoned at a local fire station.
ACT Police said the baby, whose gender has not been revealed, was found at the South Tuggeranong ACT Fire and Rescue Station in Conder about 7.20am on Thursday morning.
The baby, who had no obvious injuries, was taken to hospital by paramedics. It is believed the infant was less than 24 hours old.
“ACT Policing’s sole concern is for the health and welfare of the baby’s mother. She should attend a hospital, ring an ambulance or contact police,” police said.
“If you think a friend or family member may be the mother – please encourage them to seek medical help as soon as possible.”
Police are also seeking witnesses or dashcam footage of people or vehicles at or near the fire station.
Anyone with information about this matter should contact Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting 8228819. Information can be provided anonymously.
