One of Australia’s last DVD rental stores refuses to press stop

In an age of online streaming, one of Australia’s last DVD rental stores is refusing to fade into black.

Inside Picture Search Video, shelves stretch across two levels and hold more than 45,000 videos, from cult classics to anime and documentaries.

Owner Derek De Vreugt says visitors still walk in stunned by the sheer range, often recalling Friday nights spent arguing over weekend movie picks.

“Now we’re the last and trying to keep it going so Melbourne has access to movies they can’t find,” he said.

Despite industry decline, prices remain frozen at $3 a disc or $5 for 10, and a growing niche of collectors and film lovers suggests physical media isn’t entirely dead.

So, while streaming services may continue to dominate, this last-reel relic is still rolling.
