The surprising solution to a growing car repair issue

Classic cars are driving an unlikely solution to a growing electric vehicle repair crisis.

From Kombis to Porsches, vintage models are being converted into fully electric cars inside a Melbourne workshop that blends old-school design with modern performance.

While conversions can cost upwards of $200,000, the real breakthrough lies behind the scenes.

The team has developed specialist skills to diagnose and repair EVs at a fraction of the cost, and in some cases as little as a quarter of manufacturer prices.

“The automotive trade industry really kind of has a gap, especially looking to the future,” Drive.com.au’s James Ward said.

The electric vehicle council says EVs made up a record 23 per cent of new car sales in March, meaning demand for faster, more affordable repairs is rising, and this niche expertise could help fill the gap.
