Trump takes petty revenge on Biden in White House addition

US President Donald Trump has unveiled a walk of fame at the White House, displaying portraits of every past president – except one.
The Presidential Walk of Fame was officially unveiled on Wednesday in a flurry of emails from the Trump administration.
“The Presidential Walk of Fame has arrived on the West Wing Colonnade,” Trump communications adviser and special assistant Margo Martin wrote in a post on X, accompanied by a video showing a line-up of black-and-white portraits of presidents in gold frames.
“Wait for it.”
In place of Joe Biden’s official portrait, Trump has installed a photograph of an autopen signing Biden’s name. The petty replacement is the latest instalment in Trump’s ongoing allegations that, by the end of his presidency, Biden was too impaired to make decisions himself.
Reuters reports that a White House official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the alternative Biden portrait was Trump’s idea.
He has been fixated on Biden’s autopen use, even going as far as to order an investigation into it in a memorandum that cited Biden’s “cognitive decline”.
Trump also routinely criticises Biden, including this week in front of more than 100 world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly gathering in New York.
“One year ago [with Biden as president], our country was in deep trouble. But today, just eight months into my administration, we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world, and there is no other country even close,” he began his speech.
Trump has never acknowledged his defeat to Biden in the 2020 presidential election, continuing to blame voter fraud.
Biden, as well as former aides who have testified before a US House committee, have sharply pushed back on the suggestion that he was not the one making decisions while in office.
In a statement in response to Trump’s order, Biden said he “made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations” during his presidency.
“Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false,” he said.
“This is nothing more than a distraction.”
Autopens are devices used to replicate a person’s signature with precision. They are typically used in high-volume or ceremonial documents, and have been used by US presidents from both major parties.
“I hate my opponents. And I don’t want the best for them,” Trump said at this week’s memorial for slain right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
The wall of presidential portraits is Trump’s latest addition to the White House since his return in January. He has also replaced the Rose Garden lawn with a stone patio, and he has ordered work to start on a giant ballroom.
Trump will host a dinner on the new Rose Garden terrace on Wednesday night (local time). Those who attend, including media, are likely to get their first look at the new presidential portraits, with the West Wing Colonnade adjacent to the patio.
