President Donald Trump has revealed he will be skipping his son Donald Trump Jr’s wedding to Bettina Anderson this weekend, because he feels it’s important to stay in Washington.

Trump broke the news on Truth Social, explaining that due to “circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America” he was unable to attend the ceremony on a private island in the Bahamas.

“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” the President wrote on Truth Social earlySaturday morning  Australian time.

“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time,” he said.

“Congratulations to Don and Bettina! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he added.

An official schedule put out by the White House the previous evening noted that the President had planned to spend Saturday and Sunday at his New Jersey golf club before returning to Washington.

This has been since been amended to state that he now plans to be at the White House.

Don Jr and Bettina announced their engagement at a White House holiday event in December.

They had initially planned to marry at the White House, but had changed the venue, aware that the optics of a White House wedding amid a major global conflict would not be positive.

This his Don Jr’s third engagement. He was married to his previous wife, Vanessa for 12 years, and they have five children together. After their divorce in 2018, he was engaged to the US television personality Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is now US Ambassador to Greece.

Earlier, the president said he hoped to make the wedding, but the timing was bad. “I have a thing called Iran and other things.”

He told reporters, “That’s one I can’t win on. If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed — by the fake news, of course.”

According to the Trump Golf Tracker, the President has golfed 14 times since starting the war in Iran on February 28.
