Trump threatens to sue Grammys host over Epstein joke

US President Donald Trump is threatening to sue comedian Trevor Noah over a joke he made while hosting the 2026 Grammys.

Noah poked fun at Trump’s relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his desire to take over Greenland.

“Song of the year — that is a Grammy that every artist wants almost as much as Trump wants Greenland, which makes sense because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton,” Noah said at Sunday’s ceremony.

Trump posted a furious rant on his social media platform Truth Social, attacking Noah as a “loser” and “talentless” and foreshadowed that he would speak to his lawyers.

“The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer,” he wrote late on Monday (AEDT).

“The host, Trevor Noah, whoever he may be, is almost as bad as Jimmy Kimmel at the Low Ratings Academy Awards.

“Noah said, INCORRECTLY about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!!

“I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media.

“Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast.

“It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$.”

Hours later, Trump posted another rant denying he had every visited Epstein’s “infested” island.

“Not only wasn’t I friendly with Jeffrey Epstein but, based upon information that has just been released by the Department of Justice, Epstein and a SLEAZEBAG lying “author” named Michael Wolff, conspired in order to damage me and/or my Presidency,” he wrote on Truth Social.

Musicians slam ICE

Bad Bunny, who made history after winning album of the year at Sunday’s Grammys, used his platform to share an anti-ICE message.

The Puerto Rican rapper’s album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, took home the top prize, the first Spanish-language album to do so.

Earlier, after winning an award in the música urbana album category, Bad Bunny used his speech to share an anti-ICE message.

“Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say ICE out,” he said to huge applause.

He said love was the only thing more powerful than hate and urged people to confront cruelty with compassion.

“We love our people. We love our family,” he said.

“We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”

Luther by Kendrick Lamar with SZA won the record of the year while Billie Eilish won song of the year for Wildflower and added her voice to the chorus of musicians criticising US immigration authorities.

“No one is illegal on stolen land,” she said while accepting the award for the song from her 2024 album Hit Me Hard and Soft.

“F— ICE is all I want to say.”

Immigration became a pointed theme at the 68th annual Grammy Awards.

Before that, Olivia Dean clinched the Grammy for best new artist in a milestone moment for the British pop singer-songwriter known for her soulful voice and timeless sound.

“I never really imagined that I would be up here,” she said, receiving her first Grammy while wiping away tears.

“I’m up here as a granddaughter of an immigrant. I wouldn’t be here … I am a product of bravery and I think that those people deserve to be celebrated.”

The hits arrived fast and furious in the show’s first hour at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.

Rosé and Bruno Mars’ opened the 68th annual Grammys with an electric rendition of their multicultural pop smash, APT.

The Blackpink singer channelled a pop-punk Gwen Stefani in her tie and platinum blonde hair. Sabrina Carpenter with her Manchild kiss-off. Justin Bieber slowed things down with Yukon from his comeback record Swag.

Noah had opened with a speech celebrating the incredible breadth of talent nominated this year while poking fun at them — even joking that Jelly Roll and Teddy Swims should be able to unlock each other’s phones, given their similar face tattoos.
