A family of four, including two teenagers, have been found dead in a suspected murder-suicide at a home in Perth’s western suburbs.
Western Australian police said the “highly distressing” incident emerged on Friday morning, when a person known to the family went to their house in Mosman Park.
The bodies of the 50-year-old father, a 49-year-old mother and their two sons, aged 14 and 16, were discovered. There was also a note.
“Although this investigation is in its infancy, police are investigating this matter as a murder-suicide. There is no ongoing risk to the community,” Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo said.
“This tragic incident occurred only this morning and it will take time to investigate the full circumstances surrounding this incident…
“This is a highly distressing situation for all involved, from community members to the person that located the family to our first responders.”
Three pets were also found dead in the Mott Close home.
Securo said the two teenagers had “significant health challenges” and the family had previously engaged support services.
No weapon was used in the incident and no family violence issues had been reported to police.
“We will look at this holistically to see what led to this incident and go from there,” Securo said.
Streets around house remained closed into Friday, with police urging people to stay away.
Local MP Kate Chaney said the tragedy was “shocking and devastating” for the community.
“My thoughts go out to the friends and relatives of this family, as well as the first responders, and the neighbours and local community who knew them,” the federal member for Curtin said in a statement.
“This heartbreaking loss of four lives will have lasting effects throughout our community.”
Chaney said she hoped the police investigation would soon provide more information about the circumstances that led to deaths.
“I encourage everyone impacted by this news to hug their loved ones and if needed, reach out to the services listed for support,” she added.
