Labubu lovers flocking to Sydney Popmart

Taking over the world

They’re the cute little monsters you cannot escape. You have probably seen them gazing at you with their adorably unnerving eyes from bags, belts or even your own bespoke installation.

There’s no denying, Labubus have well and truly taken over the world, with people lining up for hours and camping out on streets, to buy the much-hyped toys.

Sydney’s Popmart will open its doors on Saturday, with hundreds and hundreds expected to flock to the store to add to their collection.

However, these cuddly creatures may have a darker side. Some critics point out that the “lucky dip” nature of purchasing Labubus, means new owners can’t be sure which toy they’ll get, which does have pronounced parallels with gambling.

Despite this backlash they still adorn the handbags of the rich and famous, including Call Her Daddy podcast sensation Alex Cooper, BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Rhianna, Dua Lipa and Kim Kardashian.

So, what do you think? Are Labubu’s cuddly friends or moreish foes?
