Wild animals see their reflections for the first time

We’ve all seen hilarious viral videos on the internet of babies or cats watching themselves in the mirror but how about a 200kg gorilla in the wild?

French photographer Xavier Hubert Brierre set up mirrors all over the Gabon rainforest in West Africa to capture animals checking themselves out for the very first time.

There’s an unimpressed elephant and a trio of monkeys who copy themselves but the best reaction has to go to the gorilla that kept coming back for more.

Some got the shock of their life

While others tried to curiously bite their reflections

There was a gorilla who ran full pelt at the mirror …

… and was a bit confused by the whole thing
