‘He ain’t eating that’: Macca’s CEO mocked for viral video

Would you buy a big meaty burger from a guy who looks like he’d rather be chowing down on some sushi or a kale salad?

That’s the question McDonald’s fans are asking after the company’s CEO and chairman Chris Kempczinski shared an awkward video of himself taste-testing the fast-food giant’s “Big Arch” burger ahead of its release in the US.

In the much-mocked Instagram clip, “Chris K” begins by claiming that he loves “this product”, before unconvincingly adding that he intends to eat the whole thing for his lunch … after the on-camera bite.

“Holy cow! God that is a big burger,” he says as he unboxes the beige-looking burger in his beige-looking office.

“We’ve got a very unique kind of sesame, poppy sort of bun on it. We’ve got two quarter-pound patties, a delicious Big Arch sauce and of course some lettuce. Oh, there’s so much going on with this.”

And he hasn’t even got to the crispy onion yet.

Seemingly unsure just how to hold a burger, Kempczinski finally lifts it to his mouth and takes the kind of tentative bite that contestants on I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! reserve for when they’re served up a tasty dish of impala anus during an eating challenge.

“Mmm, that is so good. That’s a big bite for a Big Arch,” he insists of the nibble.

The video was posted three weeks ago and has since gone viral, accumulating more than 3.4 million views, thousands of comments, and a plethora of parodies on social media.

Many ridicule the fact Kempczinski refers to the burger more than once as “product”, while others poke fun at the fact that it seems like the closest he’s previously been to a Macca’s burger is driving by the drive-by.

“This was the most unnatural thing I’ve ever seen,” commented one Instagram user, while another said: “100% he spit it out and cut the frame 🤣”.

“He acts like he’s never seen a burger before. Impressed by sesame seeds 😂,” mocked @mrnigelng.

“He ain’t eating that 3d meat 🤣,” wrote @urfavgrannie.

“Really looks like the dude is held by gunpoint,” concurred @suplextreatment.

Another Instagram user @chefryanc, taking note of the CEO’s svelte frame, commented: “Man’s aura screams kale salad.”

Or, as @garron_music quipped on TikTok: “He looks like he would try to read the ingredients on the back of a banana.”

While the Big Arch is new to the United States, Kempczinski states that it was previously “tested” in Portugal, Germany and Canada.

He omits to mention that it also launched in Australia in July last year, when it was spruiked by McDonald’s as “a towering build of a burger”.

“This isn’t your average burger, it’s the most loaded bite we’ve ever served … here for when the hunger hits hard,” company spokesperson Amanda Nakad said at the time.

Melbourne food blogger Nectorious Papi, who could show Kempczinski how to approach a burger with proper respect and take an actual big bite, confirmed in a social media video that it was indeed a “big burger”.

“The best way I can describe it is if a Quarter Pounder and a Big Mac made a baby this would be it,” he said.

With the social media reviews of the Big Arch also snowballing in America, Kempczinski can leave the taste testing to the experts – although his prolific posts on Instagram show this is actually not the first time he’s got hands-on with a Macca’s “product”.

Few will be surprised to learn that in his spare time, Chris K is an avid marathon runner.
