Australian billionaire James Packer is set to walk down the aisle again after becoming engaged to former model Kylie Lim.

”We are very happy to be engaged and looking forward to the future,” Packer told news.com.au in confirming the relationship early on Friday.

Packer, 58, and Canadian-born Lim, 46, previously dated for three years from late 2017 to 2020. It is reportedly the fifth time Packer has proposed her.

Lim has been spotted recently sporting a sparkling ring on her left hand in the ski resort of Aspen. She has a home there, as does Packer – they met at the Colorado resort in 2017.

The marriage will be his third – and it is his fifth engagement.

Packer’s other loves

Packer dated former model Kate Fischer for five years, including two while engaged, before they split in 1998.

Fischer, who later changed her name to Tziporah Malkah after converting to Judaism, once told The Australian of struggling during her engagement to Packer.

“I hate talking about him, I hate being defined by him. I had a very promising career, I feel like I was a bud snapped off the vine before I had the time to bloom,” she told Channel Ten’s The Project in 2017.

After the break-up with Packer, the 25-year-old moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. She remained there for more than a decade before returning to Australia amid financial struggles.

Packer, meanwhile, moved on with another model, Jodhi Meares.

The founder of fashion labels Tigerlily and The Upside married Packer in October 1999 at his home at Bellevue Hill, Sydney. But they separated only 14 months later and were divorced by 2002 because – according to reports at the time – Meares couldn’t cope with the pressure of being a “Packer wife”.

In a statement at the time, the former couple said they “remain the best of friends”. That appears to still be true.

“I often talk to him about all sorts of things, including business,” Meares told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2016.

“Without question, he is always the smartest person in the room.”

Model Jodhi Meares and Packer married in 1999 but divorced only three years later.

Meares now lives in Byron Bay, embracing a quieter life.

“I don’t get bored or lonely,” she told Stellar magazine last year.

“I suffer from other things but not that. Sometimes I have to ask, ‘How many days has it been? I need to just go somewhere and speak to another human’.”

After Meares, came another Australian model, Erica Baxter. Ten years Packer’s junior, they dated for four years before marrying on the French Riviera in 2007.

They welcomed three children together – daughter Indigo, son Jackson and daughter Emmanuelle – and then split in 2013.

“We remain deeply close friends and incredibly proud parents and our children are our priority going forward,” a statement said.

Again, the former couple do appear to still be friendly, even holidaying together with their children.

“I want to swim with my kids at Bondi when we’re all in Sydney together next year,” Packer told The Weekend Australian in June 2022.

Then came Mariah

Perhaps Packer’s highest-profile relationship was with pop songstress Mariah Carey.

Gossip website TMZ confirmed the relationship with pictures of them smiling and holding hands in Capri in 2015. TMZ said they were staying on Packer’s yacht and enjoying an “extended vacation”, sailing around the Mediterranean.

Carey was later seen sporting a $US10 million ($A14.2 million) engagement ring and the pair had plans to marry on the island of Bora Bora in French Polynesia. Just nine months later, however, Packer had called it all off.

In 2017, he described the relationship as “a mistake”. Amid speculation he and Carey had repeatedly clashed over money, Packer told The Weekend Australian his reasons for getting involved with the US singer and songwriter were “complicated”.

“I was at a low point in my personal life,” he said.

“She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. She is very bright. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.”

Carey reportedly kept the expensive ring, and sought a $US50 million ($71 million) settlement. The ring was later reportedly sold, with Carey pocketing millions of dollars.

And so to Kylie Lim

Lim and Packer reportedly met through mutual friends after his break-up with Carey.

She was by his side through some of the darkest times in his life. That includes his checking into a US mental health facility for treatment for issues such as bipolar disorder and depression in 2018.

In a biography published the same year, Packer described Lim as “a good person [and] a really good partner”.

“We are taking things slowly, one day at a time,” he told Damon Kitney, the author of The Price of Fortune: The Untold Story of Being James Packer.

A year later, he told the SMH: “Kylie has been a wonderful influence on my life. I love her very much.”

But they split in 2020, with Packer going on to date American model Renee Blythewood in 2024. That relationship was over early last year, with he and Lim getting back together by later in the year.

They are yet to set a date for their wedding.
