James Packer is set to marry for the third time after becoming engaged to former model and socialite Kylie Lim.

The Australian billionaire businessman and son of media mogul Kerry Packer confirmed the engagement to news.com.au on Thursday.

“We are very happy to be engaged and looking forward to the future,” Packer said.

No further details have been revealed, although it was reported that Canadian-born Lim had recently been seen at Aspen in Colorado – where they both have homes – wearing “a large and spectacular engagement ring on her left hand”.

The couple first met in Aspen in 2017 after the tumultuous breakdown of Packer’s highly publicised relationship with singer Mariah Carey, which he spoke about in his biography The Price of Fortune: The Untold Story of Being James Packer.

Packer, 58, and Lim, 46, dated for three years, then reportedly rekindled their romance last year.

Although no date has been given for the planned wedding, it will be the third for Packer, who was previously married to Australian model Jodhi Meares (1999-2002) and singer and model Erica Baxter (2007-2013), with whom he has three children.

He was also engaged to Carey in 2016, giving her a 35-carat engagement ring said to be worth around $A13 million, and to Kate Fischer (now Tziporah Atarah Malkah) in the mid-1990s.

Packer spoke about his feelings for Lim after they were photographed together on his superyacht in Capri in mid-2019, telling the Sydney Morning Herald at the time: ‘‘Kylie has been a wonderful influence on my life. I love her very much.’’

He also credited her with helping him when he was in a bad way after his split from Carey.

Packer has been frank about his struggles with mental health, citing it as a reason he resigned as director of Crown Resorts in 2018, and revealing in 2020 that he had bipolar disorder. A few years later, he donated  $7 million of his fortune towards mental health research.
