Prince Harry has denied giving his uncle Prince Andrew a bloody nose in an argument in which “punches were thrown” between the royal relatives.
The claims are part of an upcoming book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, which is being serialised in the Daily Mail.
It alleges a “heated argument” between Harry and Andrew at a 2013 family gathering over “something Andrew said behind Harry’s back”.
“Harry got the better of Andrew” by leaving his uncle with a “bloody nose”, the book claims.
According to the book, by royal biographer Andrew Lownie, Harry later told his brother, Prince William, that “he hated Andrew”.
The book also alleges that Andrew, the King’s younger brother, told the Duke of Sussex that his marriage to Meghan Markle would not last more than a month. Andrew is said to have described Meghan as an “opportunist”.
“Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make the comments he’s alleged to have made about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry,” a spokesperson for the California-based prince said at the weekend.
“Such are the gross inaccuracies, damaging and defamatory remarks made in the Daily Mail‘s story, I can confirm a legal letter from Prince Harry’s counsel has been sent to the Mail.”
Lownie’s book alleges years of tensions between the Duke of York and Prince Harry and his brother Prince William.
Among the reasons cite in the book is the Prince of Wales’ desire to “evict” Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York, from Royal Lodge. The Duke of York, who leases the property from the Crown Estate, has so far resisted the push to move.
Lownie’s work is the first in-depth biography on the relationship between Andrew and his former wife.
They married in 1986 and had daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, before separating in 1992. The couple divorced in 1996 but continue to live together at Royal Lodge and appear as a family at royal events.
The upcoming book delves into Andrew’s relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Under an agreement with his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, Andrew was stripped of official duties and forced to step back from public life amid a court case brought by Epstein victim Virginia Guiffre.
He paid millions of dollars to Giuffre in 2022 to settle a civil case out of court after she accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was 17. The prince strenuously denies her allegations.
