Dancefloor darling Robert Irwin is officially waltzing into a new role, swapping blisters for the hosting gig on Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.
The new reality series, premiering on US ABC on July 13 and streaming on Disney-owned Hulu, follows 12 aspiring dancers competing through an audition-style process while living together.
The winner of The Next Pro will earn a professional contract as a dancer on the upcoming 35th season of Dancing with the Stars.
Three-time Mirrorball champion Mark Ballas and his mother, Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas, will be serving as judges.”
“I am so excited to be back with my ballroom family to host this new era of DWTS,” Irwin said on Instagram.
In a video with his pro-dance partner of Dancing With the Stars season 34, Witney Carson, he said they’d both been working on it for a while.
“Witney and I took a little detour from the DWTS live tour to make the exciting announcement.”
In November, Irwin and Carson won the coveted Mirrorball Trophy in a three-hour finale.
Both teared up as they accepted the trophy, before 22-year-old Irwin – son of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve – made a short victory speech.
“My sister said it best, thank you for changing my life,” he said.
Irwin’s sister Bindi, then just 17, also won the show 11 years ago.
