Australia Post has brought back its Bluey-themed $2 coins after the first set of the collection quickly sold out.

It is the second time the family have found their way into currency after a highly sought-after set of $1 and $2 coins, inspired by the animated series, were minted two years ago.

Seven new designs are available, based on some of the show’s most popular episodes.

They include the episode “Baby Race”, in which mum Chilli learns an important lesson about parenting, and “Granny Mobile”, where blue heeler Bluey and his sister Bingo play grannies at a garage sale.

There will also be a limited edition colour coin based on the “Sleepytime” episode, where Bingo hatches out of the Earth in a dream sequence.

The sale was so popular when it launched on Wednesday that Australia Post’s website briefly crashed.

The coins will not be circulated but given out in change for cash purchases at selected post offices.

“Bluey is loved by families across Australia and the world, and these first ever $2 coins are a fun way for fans to connect with the characters they love,” Australia Post’s executive general manager for retail, brand and marketing, Josh Bannister, told The Daily Telegraph.

“Don’t forget to check your change either, as Bluey and Bingo $2 coloured coins are popping up in till change when making a cash transaction at participating post offices.”

Individual coins cost $20, while a five-coin tube and folder set is on sale at $34.
