Tennis champion Dylan Alcott “stitched up” one of the hosts of Channel 9’s Australian Open coverage on the first day of the grand slam at Melbourne Park.
The Paralympic star and Golden Slam winner was appearing on The Morning Serve Open preview with John Millman, Tony Jones and Jelena Dokic when discussion turned to his recent efforts on the golf course.
When Alcott mentioned he was “very lucky to break 90 the other day”, one of his fellow panellists complemented his good swing.
Alcott then said how much he was enjoying his golfing, prompting former Australian tennis player Millman to innocently ask: “What’s your handicap?”
He barely had time to realise what he had said before Alcott fired back with: “Uh, paraplegia.”
“No, no, I meant – come on. What do you play off?” Millman clarified.
Laughing, Alcott said, “Oh, you mean my golf handicap. I’m off 23 at the moment. So, paraplegia and 23.”
As a clearly embarrassed Millman covered his face with his hand, Jones said he had been stitched up: “When Dylan said ‘Someone ask me what’s my handicap’, there was only one person we knew would ask that question.”
Channel 9 later posted the clip on its website with the caption: “Dylan Alcott stitches up John Millman in hilarious fashion regarding his golf handicap.”
Alcott, who regularly posts videos of his golf games on social media, also shared the “What’s your handicap?” clip on his Instagram with the comment: “Always a confusing question”, accompanied by shrug, golfing and laughing emojis.

Large crowds have turned out for the first two days of the Open, with ground passes selling out on Sunday and fans who faced long lines to enter Melbourne Park venting on social media.
Things seemed to go more smoothly on day two, when Alex de Minaur was headlining the Australians in action.
De Minaur needed less than two hours to see off qualifying lucky loser Mackenzie McDonald 6-2 6-2 6-3. The world No.6 has never entered a grand slam with a higher seeding and duly delivered his most convincing first-round performance in nine Open campaigns.
Fan favourite Storm Hunter also made a triumphant return to centre stage with a straight-sets win over Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. The 31-year-old Australian missed last year’s Open due to a ruptured Achilles tendon and had to come through qualifying this time around.
Fellow Aussie Priscilla Hon overcame a poor first set to overpower Marina Stakusic, with the Canadian qualifier forced to withdrew with severe leg cramps while trailing 1-6 6-4 5-3
In other feature matches on day two, 10-time champion Novak Djokovic takes on Spaniard Pedro Martinez, three-time runner-up Daniil Medvedev meets Dutchman Jesper de Jong, women’s world No.3 Coco Gauff is up against Kamilla Rakhimova and second seed Iga Swiatek tackles China’s Yue Yuan.
On day one, Young West Australian wild card Talia Gibson become the first player into the second round after blasting aside Russia’s Anna Blinkova with a 6-1 6-3 victory in 76 minutes.
