These are the world’s highest-paid athletes

Fan favourite Cristiano Ronaldo has reached a new milestone, becoming the world’s first billionaire footballer.

It’s also the sixth time in the past decade that the 40-year-old topped the Forbes highest-paid footballer ranking.

Looking at some of the world’s other highest-paid star athletes, Michael Jordan tops the list, with a net worth of about $US3.8 billion ($A5.8 billion), $2.4 billion of which comes from partnerships with Nike, Hanes and Gatorade.

The next heavy hitter is golfer Tiger Woods, who has amassed around $US2.7 billion in earnings. Back home in Australia, fellow golfer Minjee Lee is worth about $10.5 million, and Matildas captain Sam Kerr is worth $3.34 million.
