Riders who watched a man fall to his death from a roller-coaster in Georgia, US, have described the nightmarish scene.

The incident took place on Monday (local time) at Six Flags Over Georgia, about 25 kilometres north-west of Atlanta, according to the Cobb County Police Department.

Detectives with department’s major crimes unit will investigate the incident.

Officials did not confirm how the person died or how the others were injured.

A Six Flags spokesperson said the park and local authorities responded immediately and were fully co-operating with local authorities in their investigation.

“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” the spokesperson said.

Local outlet 11Alive spoke to witnesses on the ride who said the man was ejected and hit the roller-coaster several times on the way down.

One witness said the man’s body hit others on the ride before falling onto the roof of a haunted house attraction below.

He told 11Alive the victim was captured on the souvenir picture taken while on the ride.

“He was in our pictures,” the witness said. “He fell and hit the car three different times.”

A husband and wife on the ride said they saw the man eject from his car and bounce off the coaster three times.

“We saw it all,” the man said.

“We were having a great time and to just screaming ‘Oh my God, what is happening?’ ” the woman said.

They both said workers checked their safety harness before the ride.

In September, Six Flags Magic Mountain, in Southern California, announced that it was retiring its famous X2 roller-coaster amid lawsuits alleging serious brain injury caused by the ride.

Six Flags recently settled a wrongful-death lawsuit from the family of a 22-year-old man who died after riding the coaster in 2022. Three more lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries were filed last week.

In 2025, a 32-year-old man died after riding a high-speed roller-coaster at the Universal Epic Universe theme park in Florida. He died from blunt impact injuries and his death was ruled accidental.
