Melania sneaks Trump tribute into White House Christmas decor

First Lady Melania Trump has unveiled her keenly awaited White House Christmas decorations, featuring a quirky tribute to her husband.

Melania’s first festive holiday since returning to Washington showcases 50 stunningly adorned Christmas trees, 75 of her signature red wreaths and 10,000 butterflies.

In a special nod to Donald Trump she sneaked in a surprise portrait of the president, made out of 6,000 pieces of Lego.

The Lego picture, which bears a close resemblance to Trump’s mugshot-like official portrait, is displayed in the Green Room, along with a Lego portrait of George Washington.

Melania’s Christmas decor does not always go down well (in 2018 her crimson cones evoked The Handmaid’s Tale vibes) and she was recorded that same year complaining, “Who gives a f*** about the Christmas stuff and decorations.”

But this year’s effort seems to have avoided controversy.

A White House statement said her chosen theme for 2025 was ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’.

This was inspired by her realisation that a home is not just a place, but something you carry with you.

“The constant movement has taught me that home is not merely a physical space; rather, it is the warmth and comfort I carry within, regardless of my surroundings,” she reflected.

“This Christmas, let’s celebrate the love we hold within ourselves, and share it with the world around us.

“After all, wherever we are, we can create a home filled with grace, radiance, and endless possibilities.”

The Red Room, featuring thousands of butterflies, honours the foster-care community, a cause Melania has championed since 2021.

She appointed renowned designer, Hervé Pierre, to oversee the implementation of her creative vision.

“The striking colour combination coupled with the butterflies symbolic meaning of transformation and renewal capture the essence of Christmas,” said the White House.

The official White House Christmas Tree is an 5.5 metre concolour fir from Sidney, Michigan, showcased in the Blue Room.

It’s decorated with gold stars and ornaments representing the official bird and flower of every US state and territory—a tribute to the resilience, bravery, and sacrifice of military personnel and their families.

The White House has again been recreated as a gingerbread house, with more than 54 kilograms of the spiced biscuit — “an artistic culinary triumph”.

“As Americans explore the historic rooms of the White House this holiday season, the 2025 Christmas decorations serve as a reminder that the strength of our Nation is found in its people—in our shared values, valued traditions, and the steadfast belief that home is where the heart is,” said the White House statement.
