‘Your mom’: Trump’s press sec slammed for ‘juvenile’ retort

Leavitt on Trump's health

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has gone viral and been labelled “juvenile” for her text response to a journalist inquiring about the proposed Trump-Putin meeting in Budapest.

Leavitt shared a screenshot of her “Your mom” answer to a media enquiry from Huffington Post journalist SV Date, author of The Useful Idiot, about President Donald Trump.

SV Date had asked who decided to hold Ukraine peace talks in Budapest, Hungary, between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Is the President aware of the significance of Budapest?” Date wrote in his texted media inquiry to Leavitt.

“In 1994, Russia promised, in Budapest, not to invade Ukraine if it gave up the nuclear weapons it inherited when the Soviet Union dissolved.

“Does he not see why Ukraine might object to that site?”

“Who suggested Budapest? Thanks.”

Leavitt wrote back as per the screenshot: “Your mom did.”

“Is this funny to you?” Date replied.

Leavitt answered: “It’s funny to me that you actually consider yourself a journal [sic].

“You are a far-left hack who nobody takes seriously, including your colleagues in the media, they just don’t tell you that to your face.

“Stop texting me your disingenuous, biased, and bulls–t questions.”

Date revealed that White House communications director Steven Cheung also responded to his inquiry with “Your mom”.

It comes amid reports on Wednesday (AEDT) that the meeting between Trump and Putin that was announced last week will not go ahead, with no explanation as to why from the White House.

In Budapest in 1994, the US, Britain and Russia signed the Budapest Memorandum, providing Ukraine with security assurances in exchange for Kyiv giving up its nuclear weapons.

The signatories of that memorandum pledged to respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity — a pledge blown apart by Russia’s all-out invasion of its neighbour in 2022.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has maintained warm relations with Moscow, adding to the bete noire or black beast status he already had in Brussels after years of conflict over what the EU says is democratic backsliding in Budapest.

Leavitt was slammed in the comments to her post.

“Are you a press secretary or a five-year-old? Seriously, you need to grow up,” someone asked.

“Screenshotting a ‘yo momma’ insult then posting it like a dunk. From the same guys who wanted the Nobel peace prize, LAST WEEK.”

And another noted: “I don’t know how, but for some reason you thought posting your text made you look better? It did not.

“It was a legitimate question, asked respectfully, but since you are perpetually in a defensive crouch because people are getting sick of being lied to, your reply was extremely crude.

“You come across as bratty, juvenile, and highly unprofessional. That you would publicly conduct yourself this way may please your current boss, but the rest us are just shaking our heads.”

Leavitt claimed in her post that Date was “not a journalist interested in the facts”.

“He is a left-wing hack who has consistently attacked President Trump for years and constantly bombards my phone with Democrat talking points,” she wrote.

“Just take a look at [his] feed; it reads like an anti-Trump personal diary. Here is my full response to his ‘inquiry’.

“Activists who masquerade as real reporters do a disservice to the profession.”

Date further responded on his own X account: “The press secretary is tossing out ad hominem attacks, hoping to discredit me and HuffPost.

“So here is some actual context: I’ve been doing this professionally for a dozen years before she was even born.”
