Princess Sofia of Sweden has confirmed twice meeting convicted US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein two decades ago but not since then.

Sofia is married to Prince Carl Philip, the only son and the second of three children of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

“I met him in a couple of social settings. But now that I’ve read about all the horrific crimes he’s subjected young women to, I’m so grateful I haven’t had anything to do with him since the few times in my 20s,” she said, according to local media reports on Tuesday.

“We met at a restaurant in a social context where I was introduced and at a film screening with many others. Thankfully, that was all,” Princess Sofia said before attending an event in Stockholm.

She also expressed her solidarity with the victims.

Several weeks ago, when the name of the princess appeared on the declassified Epstein papers, the Swedish royal family admitted that Sofia had met the late millionaire and sex offender a few times around the year 2005.

The then Sofia Hellqvist, 43, married Prince Carl Philip in 2015. The couple has four children.

The wedding culminated a five-year relationship marked from the beginning by her past. She had posed semi-naked in her youth for a magazine and was known in Sweden for having participated in the reality show Paradise Hotel.
