Why does Trump want to ‘buy’ Greenland?

There’s talk of a takeover: Could the United States buy Greenland? And why is Donald Trump so interested in the world’s largest island?
Greenland is strategically important, sitting on the maritime passage linking the Arctic to the North Atlantic.
It’s useful for monitoring Russian and Chinese activities in the Arctic. If Russia fires a ballistic missile at the US, the shortest route would be over Greenland.
It’s also rich in natural resources: oil, gas and rare earth minerals.
But Greenland is an autonomous territory, ruled by Denmark for 300 years. The UK, France, Germany, Italy and other European nations have vowed to defend its “territorial integrity”, and Denmark has warned that if America does attack, it will signal the end of NATO.
What a way to start 2026.
