Dad of murdered WA family bares his pain and blames grandad for massacre
The shattered father of the four children killed in the Margaret River family murder-suicide says their grandfather didnât snap before itâs believed he shot them.
Peter Miles, his wife Cynda, daughter Katrina and Mr Cockmanâs four children â daughter Taye, 13, and sons Rylan, 12, Arye, 10, and Kadyn Cockman, eight â were found dead at the Milesâ Osmington property, northeast of Margaret River in Western Australia on Friday.
Peter Miles had not been named by police as the killer on Sunday afternoon, but the grieving father left no one in doubt that he regards him as responsible for the horrific crime.
âPeter didnât snap â heâs thought this through. I think heâs been thinking this through for a long time,â Aaron Cockman, speaking for the first time since the tragedy, told reporters.
âAll the kids died peacefully in their beds.
âThey looked all peaceful. How the hell Peter did that, I still canât figure out. He did a good job.
âHe did a really good job.â
Mr Cockman said he still loved Miles for âwho Peter wasâ.
âIf it wasnât for him, I wouldnât have Katrina, I wouldnât have her kids,â he said.
âSo itâs not some random guy off the street whoâs taken them away from me â he gave them to me and now heâs taken them away.
âIf it had to happen, there is no better person than that.â
Mr Cockman, who was estranged from Katrina, said he had not spoken to Peter and Cynda âsince they cut me off from my kidsâ but being angry served no purpose.
âAnger will destroy you. Iâm sad but Iâll get through this.â
Mr Cockman said he would never forget his childrenâs personalities.
âI could talk about my kids all day â Taye is a beautiful girl,â he said.
âIâve lost everything in my life.â
