A toddler has been killed as a ferocious blaze ripped through a home in Melbourne’s south-west.
The child, believed to be aged three, died when the fire tore through the home just after midnight on Sunday in Werribee.
Channel Seven’s Sunrise reports that the family fled the burning property.
A man, believed to be the father aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital with burns.
There were reports of children trapped inside the home when firefighters arrived to discover the house fully ablaze.
Some children reportedly managed to escape.
“Crews extinguished the blaze, which had fully engulfed the home, before locating a child deceased inside,” Victoria Police said.
About 40 firefighters attended the scene.
The cause of the fire will be investigated.
However, Sunrise reports that there were early suspicions that an e-bike battery could be the cause.
There was reportedly an e-bike being charged at the property.
An arson chemist will be on the scene on Monday.
