A man shot by police after allegedly pulling a gun on officers following a car crash has been charged with a string of offences.

More details have also been revealed about another incident in Queensland, with police confirming an officer’s ear was grazed by a “projectile” before a man was fatally shot.

A 32-year-old man was shot while allegedly approaching officers armed with a gun on the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, on Wednesday.

Officers had responded to reports of a Sunshine Motorway car crash at Sippy Downs about 11.40am before an MG hatchback left the scene, police said.

The driver is accused of ditching the MG and getting behind the wheel of a Toyota Hilux, which police tracked to Woombye a short time later.

“It will be alleged, a 32-year-old occupant got out of the vehicle and approached officers while armed with a gun and was subsequently shot by police,” a police statement said.

The man was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The 32-year-old has been charged with a string of offences, including five counts of serious assault police while armed. He will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court later on Thursday.

It was the fourth shooting involving police in barely 24 hours, in which two people died and another was injured in separate incidents.

Police have provided more details on one of the incidents in which a man was fatally shot at Tingalpa in Brisbane’s east on Tuesday by officers responding to a welfare check request.

Officers had tried to negotiate with the 21-year-old man who allegedly threatened them with a knife and was shot, dying at the scene.

“During the incident, a male senior constable sustained a minor graze to his ear,” a police statement said.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the officer’s injury was caused by a projectile discharged during police operations.”

Steven Lin

Dr Steven Lin has been named as the man behind an alarming assault and shooting in Sydney.

In a separate incident in Sydney, another man was shot dead after he was alleged to have assaulted two women at a unit complex in inner city Potts Point.

The man has been identified as celebrity dentist Steven Lin.

In a third incident, police from the high-risk domestic violence offender squad shot a man in Newcastle.

Two stun guns were deployed against the man, but were ineffective.

He was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
