Several cabin crew members were injured when a flight from Los Angeles encountered severe turbulence while landing in Sydney.

The Delta Airlines flight, which was carrying 245 passengers, touched down just before 7am on Friday.

Reports suggest the injured were jolted from their seats by the turbulence.

NSW Ambulance said its officers who met the flight assessed five people with “musculoskeletal and lower back concerns”, three of whom were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The American airline – which also operates flights from the US to Brisbane and Melbourne – confirmed that Delta flight 41 had “encountered brief turbulence” while descending into Sydney, saying four flight attendants reported injuries.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and our customers, and our priority is taking care of the impacted crew members,” it said in a statement.
