Sydney grandmother hospitalised with broken back after alleged police assault during protest

A grandmother who claims she was assaulted by police during a violent protest in Sydney is calling for the officers involved to face charges.

Jann Alhafny, 69, says she suffered four broken vertebrae after being shoved to the ground by riot police at a protest.

“He started yelling at me to get up, get up and I said ‘I can’t get up, my back is injured’,” she said.

Alhafny, who faces a lengthy recovery, is one of several activists considering legal action over what they claim was police brutality.

It comes after pro-Palestine protestors gathered outside Sydney Police Headquarters demanding accountability following violent scenes at Town Hall on Monday night.
