A one-year-old girl has died after she was “clipped” by a train in a horror incident in a regional NSW town.

Police said the toddler was walking along the road at Baranbah Street, Baan Baa, near Narrabri, in the state’s west, on Friday night.

She was fatally struck by a freight train at about 7.50pm.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports a child had been hit by a train.

The child was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before being taken to hospital, where she died.

A crime scene has been established, and investigations have commenced into the circumstances of the crash.

The train driver – a 22-year-old man – was uninjured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
