‘Can’t thank them enough’: Hanson unveils ‘sexy’ gift from backers

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has shown off a shiny new gift from mining magnate Gina Rinehart and other conservative figures, just over a week ahead of the pivotal Farrer byelection.

Hanson shared a video and lengthy post to social media on Wednesday morning to reveal she’d been given a light plane and $2 million as One Nation eyes a major test at the NSW byelection.

“Yes it’s a Cirrus G7. Yes it’s sexy. Yes I have a pilot,” she said of the plane.

“No I won’t be doing Welcome to Country each [time] we land. No it’s not battery-operated.”

Pauline Hanson shared a video of herself unwrapping the plane before climbing inside.

The Nine newspapers report a Hanson spokesperson said the plane cost about $2.1 million and was donated by a company owned by Australia’s richest person and loyal supporter, Rinehart.

The Australian estimates it is worth $1 million-$1.5 million and has a maximum range of about 1000 nautical miles – “a distance easily covered between One Nation’s Brisbane HQ and the Farrer electorate”.

Now called Australis, the plane was unveiled in an event inside an aircraft hanger attended by One Nation members and supporters.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers blasted Hanson as a “wholly-owned subsidiary” of Rinehart after Wednesday’s reveal.

“I think Pauline Hanson is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gina Rinehart. We know this because whenever Pauline Hanson is asked to vote in the interest of Australian workers, she instead votes in the interest of Gina Rinehart,” he said.

“Whether it is in industrial relations or cost-of-living relief, what we’ve seen again and again from One Nation is that they typically vote in the way Gina Rinehart wants them to, rather than the way Australian workers need them to.”

Hanson wrote on X that she wanted “to give a huge shoutout to two wonderful, patriotic Australians, Angus and Sarah Aitken for their enormous $1 million dollar investment”.

“Two other tremendous friends of One Nation by the names of Adam Giles and Ian Plimer were also on hand to support the party with donations of $500,000 each,” she said.

Angus Aitken is a NSW-based stockbroker. He and his wife last year donated more than $200,000 to conservative outfit Advance Australia

Giles is a former Northern Territory chief minister who is now CEO of Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Agriculture. Plimer is a prominent climate-change denier who sits on boards for Hancock Prospecting.

“Their faith and investment in One Nation is an enormous help towards our next federal campaign and I can’t thank them enough,” Hanson wrote.

Early voting opened this week in Farrer, ahead of the May 9 byelection in the regional NSW electorate previously held by former opposition leader Sussan Ley.

It is considered a contest between One Nation’s David Farley and independent Michelle Milthorpe.

The Coalition has held the seat since it was established, but recent polling puts Farley as the frontrunner to win One Nation’s first lower-house seat.

The Liberals’ decision to favour Farley over Milthorpe on how-to-vote cards has been a divisive issue for the party. Opposition Leader Angus Taylor has defended the decision, saying One Nation was the “least-worst option” in Farrer, aside from Nationals pick Brad Robertson.

On X, Hanson said the “faith and investment” in One Nation was an “enormous help towards our next federal campaign”.

“We have a lot of additional fundraising to undertake between now and the cut off in December to combat the uni-party ahead of the 2028 federal election,” she wrote.

“Keep an eye out for my maiden voyage.”
