Looking back at the controversial career of Kevin 07

It’s perhaps the catchiest name an Australian PM has ever had: Kevin 07.
Kevin Rudd was the son of the sunshine state, who brought presidential-style campaigning to Australia… and then went on to deal with presidents on behalf of Australia.
Neither was without controversy. As prime minister, he was a popular and prolific politician, apologising to the stolen generation, establishing paid parental leave and even designing the National Broadband Network – before internal dissent cost him the top job.
After an election defeat ended his brief return to the Lodge, Rudd became an academic, and then an ambassador. He navigated the AUKUS agreement through congress and oversaw an $8 billion rare-earth minerals deal during his three years in Washington.
Now, it seems he’s on the out, of his own volition, after Anthony Albanese announced Rudd will step down as Ambassador to the US, with a successor yet to be named.
