Ben Roberts-Smith’s parents speak out after bail decision

Australia’s most decorated living soldier, Ben Roberts-Smith, has been granted bail after spending 10 days behind bars on serious war crime allegations.

Sue and Len Roberts-Smith have stood firmly by their son throughout the proceedings, and his mother took a moment to express relief and unwavering support.

“It’s been a terrible experience for us all,” she said.

Asked what she would say to her son when she saw him, her response was simple: “I love you darling.”

The 47-year-old, who faces five counts of murder, was granted bail on Friday under strict conditions, including regular police reporting and a ban on international travel.

Ben Roberts-Smith is no stranger to a legal battle, but this time it’s not just his reputation on the line, it’s also his freedom.

The case is set to resume in June. If convicted of the war crime of murder, Roberts-Smith faces the prospect of life in prison.
