Aussies slammed with fines for offences they didn’t commit in cheeky scam

Innocent Aussies are racking up fines for crimes they didn’t commit thanks to a problematic scam targeting drivers across the country.
It involves criminals trawling through online car listings so they can copy number plates and break the law in someone else’s name.
Inari, 22, received a $137 ticket because his motorbike was caught speeding in Sydney’s CBD at up to 10km/h over the limit late one night. At the time of the offence, his motorcycle was listed for sale on Facebook marketplace – although his plates weren’t hidden on the original ad.
Initially Revenue NSW rejected Inari’s story. His fine was finally cancelled after a review – five months later.
