A woman has been charged with torture and failing to provide the necessities of life to a child who has been in intensive care for almost three months.

A woman will face court accused of torture and neglect after a 10-year-old girl was admitted to hospital suffering from critical malnutrition with untreated injuries.

The 40-year-old from Logan Reserve, in Brisbane’s south, was charged by police following an extensive investigation after the girl was admitted to Queensland Children’s Hospital on February 9.

The girl was suffering from dehydration, critical malnutrition and had significant untreated injuries when she was admitted.

She remains in intensive care and is in a stable condition, police said on Tuesday.

Police were notified after her hospital admission and began an investigation, declaring the child’s Logan Reserve home as a crime scene.

The woman has been charged with three counts of fail to supply necessaries and one count of torture.

She is scheduled to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.
