A teen who murdered a beloved GP has been jailed for 17 years for brutally stabbing an unarmed man.
The boy, now 18, looked straight ahead as Victorian Supreme Court Justice Amanda Fox handed down his sentence on Tuesday morning.
A jury found he murdered doctor Ashley Gordon near his Doncaster home in Melbourne’s north-east early on January 13, 2024.
The teen and a friend broke into the house about 4am, stealing shoes, headphones, laptops, a wallet and silver necklaces.
They went back to a nearby house party before returning to Gordon’s house, planning to steal the Mercedes-Benz that was parked in the garage.

Gordon caught them as they tried to break in a second time, chasing the teens onto the street and then following them in his car.
He got out of the vehicle once they reached a nearby street and tried to restrain the then-16-year-old, telling him the police were on their way. But the boy pulled out a knife and stabbed Gordon six times before leaving him to die on the ground.
Fox described the murder as a brutal attack against an unarmed man as she sentenced the teen to 17 years’ jail.
He will be eligible for parole after 12 years.
Gordon’s family and friends let out gasps and then cried as the sentence was handed down.
