‘Over the Moon’: Aussie teen achieves her Everest dream

Melbourne teenager Bianca Adler has achieved her dream of becoming the youngest Australian to summit Mt Everest, with her parents reporting she is “a bit tired but over the moon”.
The 18-year-old climber, who has been documenting her two-month expedition on social media, spoke to her dad Paul shortly after her team reached the top of the 8849m mountain.
“I feel really good but the weather is really bad,” she told him in a radio call shared on Instagram.
“We just need to take some photos and go because it’s a little bit cold and windy and dark up here.”
Adler began climbing while growing up in the French Alps and has summited several other high-altitude mountains. Two years ago, at just 16, she became the youngest woman to climb Nepal’s Manaslu – the eighth highest mountain in the world.
Paul Adler and Bianca’s mother Fiona have both previously reached the top of Everest – in 2007 and 2006, respectively – and she attempted the climb herself last year but was thwarted by bad weather around 400m from the top.
This time around, both parents travelled with her to the Everest base camp, with Paul continuing as far as camp two.

Fiona Adler revealed Bianca and her guides Pemba and Ngdu had reached the summit in a blog post on Wednesday morning (AEST), saying she sounded “a bit tired, but over the moon”.
“She is there well before the masses of people still on their way up – this is important for safety as it’s meant that she’s been able to climb at her pace and not get stuck and get cold in a long queue,” the post said.
“The only downside is that she’s summited in the dark. But that’s a small price to pay for a safe and successful summit.
“Super well done, Bink! We’re all so proud of you and all the work you’ve put into this.”
In a further update early Wednesday afternoon on Instagram, the family shared a photo of Bianca resting at camp four as she made her way back down the mountain.
“On the summit and climbing up, I felt amazing, but coming down is tough,” she told them via satellite.
“I felt like I needed to be so much more cautious and it was a lot of work clipping around people.”
Gabby Kanizay was previously the youngest Australian to summit Everest when she climbed the mountain with her mother at 19 years of age in 2022.
Adler says on her website that her desire to climb in the Himalayas was inspired by growing up surrounded by the “beautiful alpine peaks” in the French Alps – and she held onto her dream after her family moved to Australia.
“My attempt to summit Mt. Everest isn’t just about pushing myself — it’s also about inspiring others to get outdoors and embrace discomfort.
“I believe everyone can find a love for the outdoors in one way or another.”
