Contamination fears have prompted the recall of a ham sold by independent Australian retailers, including IGA supermarkets in Victoria and New South Wales.
The recall is for Barkly Smokehouse’s Lux Ham 1.9kg with a use-by date of May 6, 2026.
A notice on the NSW Food Authority website said the ham may be contaminated by the bacteria listeria monocytogenes.
“Listeria monocytogenes may cause severe illness in pregnant women, unborn babies, neonates, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals,” it said.
“The general population can also become ill from consuming food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.”

Shoppers who have bought the ham are advised not to eat it, but to return it to the place of purchase and seek a full refund.
Anyone concerned about their health should seek medical advice.
Eating food contaminated with lysteria can cause listeriosis, the symptoms of which include fever, nausea, headaches, tiredness, and muscle aches and pains, according to Health Direct. Sometimes these can take weeks or even months to develop.
Based in Epping, Victoria, Barkly Smokehouse describes itself as “the home of grandmother ham” and makes a range of smallgoods sold at delicatessens, supermarkets and other food stores around Australia.
