‘I’m going down’: dramatic chopper crash

The pilot of a helicopter that crash-landed into Pearl Harbor in front of stunned tourists radioed air traffic controllers to tell them his craft was in trouble.

Honolulu TV station KHON-TV obtained the recording, in which the pilot tells the tower, “I think I’m going down”.

• Thai wreckage ‘unlikely’ to be from MH370

Moments later, the tower radios for help, saying the chopper is underwater.

The five people on board, including a Canadian family of four, survived Thursday’s crash near the visitor’s centre, but a teenage boy is in a critical condition.

Bystanders helped rescue him from the submerged chopper.

A tourist captured video of the dramatic fall on his mobile phone before jumping in to help.
