Strip club explosion arrest

A man has been arrested in connection with an explosion at a Kittens strip club in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs that police believe is linked to an ongoing feud between bikie gangs and security companies.

The man was arrested at a home in Berwick, in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs, and the property was searched.

The man will be interviewed by police in relation to the explosion and other matters, which police believe are linked.

• Drive-by shooting in Melbourne

The 3am blast caused significant damage to the building, but no-one was inside at the time.

The incident is believed to be linked to a feud that began 18 months ago between outlaw motorcycle gangs and security companies, detectives with Victoria’s anti-bikie gang taskforce said.

It was the third attack on a venue belonging to the Kittens chain in recent months.

Its South Melbourne premises was the target of drive-by shootings in November and January.

Police said the gangs were fighting for a bigger slice of the pie in regards to the lucrative security industry.
