One man is dead and another injured after being dumped outside a hospital with what police believe are gunshot wounds.

The men were left outside Casey Hospital in Berwick about 1am.

Police said doctors treated both of the men but one of them died a short time later.

“Police can confirm the deceased man has what appears to be gunshot wounds,” a police spokesperson said.

“A post-mortem [examination] will be conducted to establish the cause of death.”

The other man remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Investigators cordoned off the emergency department entrance for some time.

Officers could be seen scouring the bushes surrounding the hospital.
