Charlie Hebdo unveils next cover

French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo will featureĀ aĀ cartoonĀ of the Prophet Muhammad on the cover afterĀ several members of its editorial team were gunned down by terrorists.

The cover will feature an image of the Prophet shedding a tear while holding the now-famous sloganĀ ā€œJe suis Charlieā€Ā underneath the headline ā€œtout estĀ pardonnĆ©ā€ which means ā€œall is forgivenā€.

Lawyer Richard Malka said the first issue following the tragedy would ā€œof courseā€ feature images of the Prophet.

ā€œWe will not give in. The spirit of ā€˜Je suis Charlie’ means the right to blaspheme,ā€ Mr Malka told France Info radio.

ā€œWe will not give in otherwise all this won’t have meant anything. A Je Suis Charlie banner means you have the right to criticise my religion, because it’s not serious.ā€

The magazineĀ has been attacked in the past, presumed to be in responseĀ to itsĀ controversial depictions ofĀ Muhammad.

ā€œWe have never criticised a Jew because he’s a Jew, a Muslim because he’s a Muslim or a Christian because he’s a Christian,ā€ Mr Malka continued.

ā€œBut you can say anything you like, the worst horrors – and we do – about Christianity, Judaism and Islam, because behind the nice slogans, that’s the reality of Charlie Hebdo.ā€
